“Anorexia and cigarettes are the only socially acceptable forms of suicide.”
Interesting. I mentioned I like Kurt Vonnegut:
"The public health authorities never mention the main reason many Americans have for smoking heavily, which is that _smoking is a fairly sure, fairly honorable form of suicide_." [emp Pi's]
“A good Christian lady speaks sternly to her from a pulpit. Would this be considered a recitative?”
I can’t help but hope it was a recitativo from Le Nozze di Figaro … my favourite scene being the Act II finale. But I also know it wasn’t.
(My only humanities course in uni, a required arts elective, was “Opera Appreciation 101”, which was a welcome break a few times a week from year 4 quantum & statistical mechanics classes, though I loved those too)
“Take me into your arms and inseminate me with your pus”
You, my friend, have won the internet for the day.
Given the subject matter it’s perhaps strange to say, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading this piece. In a similar way to how I enjoy the films of Larry Clarke.
Question. You have amazing powers of grotesque description. So do you enjoy body horror films and such? Or do you hate them because your brain generates that kind of imagery so much on its own?
I don’t watch horror. I actually avert my eyes for anything gory- including silly shows like The Walking Dead. My brain is full of revolting imagery already and I don’t need to add fuel to the fire.

- Kurt Vonnegut, Welcome to the Monkey House
Oh fuck yes!
That title hits hard.
I chose it for its accuracy.

Great musician, not so sure about his filmmaking skills though …
My wife and I were just laughing again about our local paper’s film review for “House of a Thousand Corpses”:
“0 stars. If I could give it negative infinity stars I would.”🙀
22 years later and it still cracks us up every time 😹
Haha- that’s hilarious. I’ve never been into horror so I haven’t seen any of his movies.
I am a fan of existential implied horror (The Endless, e.g., as well as the rest of the Moorhead & Benson filmography).
But I had to watch House 1k when it came on one late night.
It was, as so many IDMB reviews say, and further to the -♾️ review, *the single worst thing I had & have ever seen on screen*.
No redeeming qualities, afaict, even if one loves shock horror.
And yet I know some who love it. I thought it was meh.
I did like The Devil's Rejects. I especially love that they created a whole album for the fake country band in the movie.

I did watch Devil’s Rejects earlier that same night. Nothing like late night cable TV…
Not going to say I liked it, but it wasn’t devoid of redeeming value, and it felt like a Best Picture winner after the House 1K follow up 🤣
I have to give it to William Forsythe. Raising Arizona and Devil’s Rejects. Quite a range.
Haha, not even close. It’s this:

Thank you. I’m full of all kinds of disgusting ways to describe how I felt about being alive back then so look forward to more of that next Wednesday.

You may not watch it, but you sure can write it.
I appreciate that.
